a complete transformation or change in the appearance of someone or something to make it more attractive

Background: The word was used in the late 1960s by hairstylists and beauticians and gradually changed from the idea of ‘refashioning’ to a total ‘restyling’, going beyond hairstyles and makeup.

Since the 1980s it has been used for other kinds of remodelling, such as interior decoration or the restructuring of a business or a change in its corporate image.

After her makeover her friends and colleagues hardly recognized her.

Due to advances in modern medicine, it is now possible to have a total body makeover, in which plastic surgeons can combine surgeries that required separate sessions a few years ago.
