Definition: to give or supply something to others, often money

Slide 5:
The picture shows a large green bucket with the sign “Donations” on the front.

Sentence example: Rather than charge a fixed price, a Donations bucket was placed in a prominent place for anyone who wished to contribute toward the expenses.

TRIBUTE

Definition: an action, gift or statement to show gratitude, respect, or admiration

In the picture we see Buckingham Palace, London, just after the death of Queen Elizabeth II was announced.

Sentence example: September 9, 2022
Crowds gather outside Buckingham Palace to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II.

Definition: punishment given in return for a wrong committed

The picture shows Hiroshima after the atomic bomb was dropped.

Sentence example: It has been debated whether the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima in August, 1945, was retribution for the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour in December, 1941.

TRIBUTARY

Definition: a river or stream flowing into a larger river or lake

Slide 11:
The picture shows a satellite image of the Amazon.

Sentence example: This image provided by the Sentinel-1 mission shows water bodies in blue, so the Amazon River can be clearly seen and the various tributaries (the thin blue lines) which flow into it.

ATTRIBUTE (verb)

Definition: to regard something as the cause of something

Slide 13:
In the picture we see Paul McCartney with his father Jim.

Sentence example: Paul McCartney attributed his love of music mainly to his father Jim.
