While it may be a challenge to get it right 100% of the time, it is possible to master the use of definite and indefinite articles MOST of the time, bringing you to the level of a native speaker.
How can this be accomplished? By examining a few simple rules and then PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE.
The course: How to Master DEFINITE INDEFINITE Articles does just that.

Why can you say “Brazilians” without the definite article and not “English”?
Slide 10
Here is a simple rule to follow:
When a nationality is a plural noun, in other words, when it ends in ‘s’, you can use the definite article ‘the’ OR no article at all.
‘Brazilians’ refers to Brazilians in general, ‘the Brazilians’ refers to Brazilians as a nation – they basically mean the same.
Slide 11
However, when a nationality does not end in ‘s’, you must ALWAYS use the definite article ‘the’.
So you can say either ‘Italians’ or ‘the Italians’, ‘Germans’ or ‘the Germans’.
However, you must say ‘the English’, ‘the French’, ‘the Chinese’, etc.
