Practice reading by reading material on a subject you enjoy. Google it and read many articles on whatever your interest is.
Some may just like to read the news. Fine! Read whatever interests you and try to read a wide variety. This way you will enjoy reading and you will want to read more.

Practice timing
You will have 3 passages to read so allow 20 minutes for reading each passage and answering the questions (40 in all).
Use online free resources. Google “free IELTS reading exercises” or use a paid service (see Description below) to get your exercise marked and graded by qualified examiners.

Practice skimming
This means looking quickly over the paragraphs looking for keywords and main ideas, taking note of titles and sub-titles and the first sentence of each paragraph which is often the topic sentence.

Practice scanning
This involves looking for specific information such as names, dates, or numbers.

Pre-read
Before reading the text, quickly skim, scan, and read the questions. This will alert you as to what to look for as you read the text thoroughly.
