A mnemonic is a memory device such as an image, comical story, or rhyming word, that can quickly bring a word back to mind.

Here is the first word . . .
Slide 4:
RAMIFICATION
Pronounced: ram◦if◦ih◦KAY◦shun with stress on the 4th syllable.
DEFINITION: a serious and often unwelcome consequence of an action or event
STORY: A RAM decides to go on VACATION. The farmer is worried as this could have serious economic consequences for his farm.
(RAM – VACATION . . . RAMIFICATION)
SENTENCE EXAMPLE: The terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York on September 11, 2001, had huge ramifications for the United States and the rest of the world.

FRAGILE
Pronounced: FRA◦jile with stress on the 1st syllable.
DEFINITION: easily broken or damaged
STORY: It’s called FRIDGE ISLE because people leave their fridges that have been easily broken
(FRIDGE-ISLE . . . FRAGILE)
SENTENCE EXAMPLE: When shopping, she trained her daughter to always put fragile items on the top of the basket.

IMPULSIVE
Pronounced: im◦PULL◦siv with stress on the 2nd syllable.
DEFINITION: acting on a sudden idea without thinking in advance
STORY: An IMP (mischievous child) gets a sudden idea to PULL the kitchen SIEVE under a bush in the garden so his Mum can’t find it.
(IMP-PULL-SIEVE . . . IMPULSIVE)
SENTENCE EXAMPLE: Retailers often use discounts to attract impulsive buyers.

SUCCUMB
Pronounced: suh◦CUM with stress on the 2nd syllable.
DEFINITION: to give in to pressure or temptation
STORY: He loved vacuuming and couldn’t stop himself rushing to SUCK CRUMBS off the floor.
(SUCK-CRUMBS . . . SUCCUMB)
SENTENCE EXAMPLE: If there was chocolate cake in the house, he always succumbed to temptation, and couldn’t stop eating until it was all gone.

DIVULGE
Pronounced: di◦VULGE with stress on the 2nd syllable.
DEFINITION: to reveal or make known something private or secret
STORY: Just before he DIVES off the EDGE of a high-diving board, a man reveals his secret to his friend. He shouts: “I imagine I’m a bird.”
(DIVE – EDGE . . . DIVULGE)
SENTENCE EXAMPLE: The police put pressure on the suspect to divulge details of who else was involved in the crime.
